The UF International Center was delighted to welcome the delegation from MATE – the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences.Their visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss new avenues for international collaboration, exchange, and partnership development.

Dr. Marta Wayne, Dean and Associate Provost of the University of Florida International Center (UFIC), has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Executive Committee of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Commission on International Initiatives (CII). Her term will begin following the 2025 APLU Annual Meeting, to be held November 9–11 in Philadelphia and continue through the 2028 Annual Meeting.

Abdulfatai Faro is a graduate student from Nigeria whose academic path has been shaped by a strong foundation in Chemical Engineering and meaningful international experiences. After completing his undergraduate studies in Nigeria, he continued to Lancaster University in the UK, gaining exposure to global research environments and firsthand insight into the challenges international students face. These experiences influenced both his professional goals and his passion for supporting others in academic transitions.

UFIC continued its Innovations in International Education Speaker Series during IEW by hosting Dr. Meg Ramey for “When Health Goes South: An Interactive Travel Health Drill in Brazil.” Attendees explored best practices for preparing students for health and safety challenges abroad through an interactive scenario. Dr. Ramey, Executive Director of WorldKind, shared insights from her extensive experience in instructional design and international education.

The International Center was honored to host Professor Tremura for a vibrant and engaging presentation on one of Brazil’s most colorful and heartfelt traditions. Professor Tremura, a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology and faculty member in both the School of Music and the Center for Latin American Studies, also serves as Director of the Brazilian Music Institute, where he brings together students and international artists to explore Brazil’s rich performance traditions.

The College of Health and Human Performance (HHP) hosted a drop-by event in celebration of International Education Week to show appreciation for its international students and recognize their accomplishments.
