Senegalese researcher Dr. Alioune Touré has been visiting UF campus this past month.

Dr. Touré is a veterinarian by training. He is currently the Head of Livestock and Technology Sciences Department at the University of Sine-Saloum El Hadji Ibrahima NIASS (USSEIN) in Kaffrine, Senegal. Up until August 2023 he worked with Drs. Nargiza Ludgate, Sarah McKune, Renata Serra, and Sandra Russo on an IDRC funded project titled “Advancing women’s participation in livestock vaccine value chains in Nepal, Senegal, and Uganda.” He was the country coordinator in Senegal supporting the work of UF researchers and students in Kaffrine.

In addition, the purpose of Dr. Touré’s visit is to exchange research and teaching experience with peers at UF as well as develop long-term collaboration with UF. Particularly, to formalize international MOUs between UF and USSEIN to facilitate strong linkages between the two institutions. An MOU was signed yesterday with the College of Public Health and Health Professions, represented by Dr. Tony Maurelli.

Dr. Touré is being jointly hosted by the Center for African Studies and the Institute for Global Food Systems at IFAS.
