Professional Development Opportunities for Virtual Exchange
The Office of Global Learning at the UF International Center offers a 5-week, fully online course during which participants become familiar with various models for virtual exchange. Participants work on the development of their own project and learn about the requirements for implementing a successful VE within a course that they teach regularly. UF faculty are encouraged to attend the course with their virtual exchange partners.
The course addresses the following topics:
- Module 1: Introduction to Virtual Exchange
- Module 2: Navigating Intercultural Collaborations
- Module 3: Designing a Virtual Exchange: Task Design
- Module 4: Utilizing Technology Effectively
- Module 5: Implementing VE at UF & Project Presentations
Eligibility: Faculty and staff with educational responsibilities
Mode: Online training with some synchronous sessions. Training takes 2 hours per week of independent work plus one hour of synchronous online interaction with facilitators, other course participants, and/or international partners.
Deliverable: Proposal for a virtual exchange module to be implemented within 2 semesters.
Award: All participants will receive a digital badge upon completion of the program. UF Faculty will receive $500 in professional development funds pending budgetary approval. This training counts for 500 miles toward the Global Teaching and Learning Certificate.
Duration: 15-hour online training, completed over six weeks.
Requirements: An international partner is strongly recommended but not required. Assistance finding a partner is available through the course organizers.

The Stevens Initiative regularly organizes free webinars on virtual exchange and offers a variety of recorded videos on different topics related to virtual exchange.
International Virtual Exchange Conference (IVEC) is the largest and most prominent event on virtual exchange, providing a forum for an audience of deans, directors, faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and professionals from institutions around the world interested in technology enabled global learning, international education, and new pedagogies.
