Dr. Matthew Jacobs, Associate Professor in the UF Department of History, and Director of Undergraduate Academic Programs at the International Center served as keynote speaker at the University of Florida Model United Nations anuual conference, GatorMUN. This conference provided a learning experience breaking from the traditional classroom setting and transforming high school students into experts on pressing international issues. During the weekend, students became delegates in important international forums addressing complex global issues such as preventing the spread of diseases, defending human rights, and upholding justice in the international system. Unlike traditional Model United Nations conferences, GatorMUN focused on offering specialized committees within the UN system allowing delegates to experience committees not always offered at Model United Nations conferences.

Dr. Jacobs challenged young participants and expanded their international awareness to help them grow into global citizens.
