UFIC Welcomes Delegation from Ukraine to Advance Global Connections

The University of Florida recently welcomed Oleksandr Kodola, Mayor of Nizhyn, Ukraine, for a two-day visit aimed at advancing the Sister City partnership between Gainesville, Florida and Nizhyn, Ukraine, moving the relationship from a formal agreement toward meaningful collaboration and concrete action.

During the visit, Kodola met with University of Florida leaders and members of the UF International Center to explore opportunities for academic partnerships, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives. The program also included discussions with city and county officials to strengthen the Sister City relationship, engagement with local school leaders to examine student exchange opportunities, and visits to innovation and entrepreneurship programs to identify potential areas for collaboration in biotechnology, research, and startup development.

Additional activities included networking events, engagement with the Gainesville’s Ukrainian community, and strategic planning sessions focused on defining actionable next steps and establishing long-term partnership goals.
